Cleveland Real Estate - is one of my Google Alerts, which I receive and review daily. Today I was frustrated with two articles, where Cleveland was mentioned. What a wrong image of the city!
The first one was about the World Press Photo Contest results. The winner is Anthony Suau with the picture of Cuyahoga County sheriff's deputy Robert Kole checking out a foreclosed home in Cleveland.
Honestly, the mess captured on this winning photo is not extraordinary for foreclosed homes. We the Realtors(R) see much worse houses than one which grabbed the attention of talented photographer and the judges of this contest. The only difference is that we do not carry the guns while previewing these homes for our investors buyers.
My frustration is so bad because too much left behind the scene. Yes, this picture reflects the war-like nature of the crisis. However, that's not the only face of today's Cleveland. It's too negative to be true.
Too much negativity will not help our economy. Too much negativity in reality means misleading.
I would prefer the picture of the houses BEFORE and AFTER our enthusiastic investors save them to be the winners of any Photo contests. I would prefer the stories about the responsible owners and diligent borrowers who keep our neighborhoods safe and beautiful to win all the contests.
The other story was "America's most miserable cities" by Forbes. You bet, Cleveland is there. One fact was true - indeed, we had the record 52 inches of snow this year. Ask Clevelanders - are they miserable? I am not. I don't have time to be miserable. I am too busy helping people buy or sell homes in Cleveland.
First six weeks of 2009 showed a very good buyer's activity in Cleveland. I do not have official statistics yet but personal data reflects - I hope - the trend of 2009. All types of buyers were presented - first time buyer who purchased my listing in Richmond Heights: sellers who are moving to a bigger home in Twinsburg; another first time buyers who will enjoy their new home in Mentor; investors buying in Shaker Heights and Cleveland Heights; tenants who rent in Lyndhurst and Beachwood.
Although cash investors do not care about low interest rates and first time buyers' tax credit, all other buyers are very happy with them. Obviously, their decision to buy was not caused by these incentives. However, that's the best "side effect" of home buying which the buyers can entertain today!
